Education

BUILD CONFIDENCE, creativity,
teamwork, AND YOUR INNER STAR.

At Miners Alley, curious theatre lovers can create something new and develop their dramatic craft. We offer year-round classes for all ages, spectacular summer camps for young people, and a Schools to Stage program that brings students to professional performances and tours shows to schools throughout the area.

youth CLASSES

At Miners Alley, kids learn to communicate, collaborate, and create through theatrical performance! Our classes and summer camps are for students from pre-K through 12th grade.

Adult Classes

Professional artists. Experienced instructors. Wonderful colleagues. One-of-a-kind programs. At Miners Alley, you’ll find the classes you want to get the skills you need.

NEW: SCHOOLS TO STAGE

Theatre should be for everyone! Sadly, though, too many kids can’t afford to experience live theatre. Our Schools to Stage program brings school kids to Miners Alley, and professional performances into metro-area schools, free of charge.

Connection

“MAPAC feels like MY theatre.” ––MAP Patrons

At a time when we are all emerging from one pandemic and battling another ongoing one – the loss of interpersonal interactions to screens and electronic devices – the shared experience of live theatre can bring a community together like little else can.

Empathy

“I love MAPAC because I love great live theatre. Live theater helps me understand life, growth, and inspiration.” — Pat Madison

Studies show that exposure to the performing arts increases empathy in children and adults. Our world needs this now, more than ever, and this new space will create more opportunities for that very thing.

Inclusivity

“My daughter came home from her first
day at your summer camp, and told me – through tears – that she has finally ‘found her people.’ ”

At every after-school or summer program, a parent thanks us (often through tears) for providing their child with a place where they feel accepted for who they are. This center will provide critical needed space for children and adults to feel welcome regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or anything else that might cause them feel unwelcome in other places.

Accessibility

“Incredible theater productions without the attitude. Very warm and welcoming.” — Aimee Valdez

With the loss of arts education in schools, private arts education has become even more vital. Expensive ticket prices and isolated venues that require a car to reach them contribute to the notion that “theatre is for the rich.” At Miners Alley our philosophy has always been that the performing arts are for everyone. With more seats, we will be able to offer more free/reduced price tickets, scholarships, and subsidies.

Community

“The proximity to a visual arts center gives [the] community a feeling of completeness, [an] all encompassing art experience.”

This project will create space for community events, meetings, classes and beyond. With more access, special pricing opportunities, subsidies, and scholarships, we will expand our programming, education, and children’s programming to serve a wider, more diverse audience than ever before.

Economy

“Miners Alley Playhouse IS local theatre, with local ownership and involvement, including all ages of local participants and attendees. Lucky Golden!”

The performing arts drive dollars into a community. Providing jobs to artists, designers, bartenders, and builders is only the beginning. Research shows that every dollar raised in ticket sales equates to $6 or more in income to local businesses, restaurants, shops… even babysitters! In fact, each visitor to the theater traditionally spends more money throughout the community than they do at the theater itself.
